Outdoor wireless projects often encounter a basic engineering problem: a strong router and a capable antenna do not automatically produce a reliable installation. Long RF cables, awkward mounting positions, weather exposure and inconsistent field work can erode performance before a network goes live.

Taoglas is addressing that gap through its acquisition of Wireless Instruments Sp. z o.o. (QuWireless), a Poland-based specialist in high-performance antennas and antenna-enclosure systems. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction was also reported by SatNews.

QuWireless develops all-in-one products that place an industrial router directly inside an antenna enclosure. Instead of separately mounting the router, antenna and associated RF cables, an installer slots the router into the enclosure and mounts a single assembled unit.

That sounds like a modest mechanical change. In practice, it can affect project economics and radio performance. Shorter RF cable runs can reduce signal loss, while a pre-integrated enclosure can decrease installation time and limit the number of connections exposed to weather or accidental damage.

“A lot of the challenge today isn’t just RF performance; it’s getting reliable and robust connectivity in place quickly, with controlled installation costs, especially outdoors,” said the CEO of Taoglas. The executive added that QuWireless antenna enclosures “take a lot of that complexity out and significantly decrease install time.”

Where does that matter most? Taoglas and QuWireless are targeting environments including industrial sites, telecommunications infrastructure, smart grids, transport systems, rooftops and remote locations with limited network coverage. These are places where sending a technician back to correct a cable, enclosure or alignment problem can be expensive.

The acquisition also broadens Taoglas beyond individual antennas and RF components. By adding integrated outdoor RF enclosures and CPE-class hardware, Taoglas gains a larger role in how complete connectivity systems are packaged and deployed. Its existing design, testing and certification capabilities can now be combined with QuWireless enclosure expertise across more devices, frequency bands and physical form factors.

The opportunity increasingly overlaps with industrial IoT gateways, outdoor routers and 5G customer premises equipment. Future Market Report estimated the global industrial IoT gateway market at about $13.75 billion in 2024 and projected it to reach $26.5 billion by 2032, representing an 8.56% compound annual growth rate (source).

Estimates differ because researchers define gateway hardware, edge processing and associated services in different ways. Another analysis places industrial IoT gateways at $3.0 billion in 2024 and forecasts $7.4 billion by 2030, reflecting a 16.4% CAGR. Even with that variation, the direction is consistent: enterprises are connecting brownfield machinery and geographically dispersed assets to cloud and edge platforms.

Outdoor 5G CPE is developing quickly as well. The Business Research Company expects that market to rise from $4.69 billion in 2025 to $5.46 billion in 2026 and $9.94 billion by 2030, at roughly a 16% CAGR (source) (source). Fixed wireless access, private networks and industrial connectivity are pushing equipment into sites where indoor consumer-grade designs are often unsuitable.

Competition will be broader than antenna specialists. Cradlepoint, Cambium Networks and Cisco offer ruggedized outdoor 4G and 5G routers or industrial IoT gateways. Deployments are also being shaped by 3GPP 5G NR Release 17/18 and IEEE 802.11ax/802.11be, particularly where cellular access and high-throughput Wi-Fi backhaul need to coexist.

QuWireless will continue operating as QuWireless, a Taoglas company, and its portfolio will initially retain the QuWireless brand. The QuWireless CEO said joining Taoglas would bring the designs to a broader market and integrate them with a wider range of RF technologies.

The QuWireless team will remain in Poland and serve as a centre of excellence for antenna-enclosure design, working with Taoglas engineering teams worldwide. Execution now becomes the key test. If Taoglas can expand router compatibility while preserving QuWireless installation simplicity, the acquisition could give customers a more practical route from RF design to field-ready outdoor connectivity.
